Respecting life is obeying God
Brother Leong Phoo Hun says that to be punctual is to keep a promise with someone. Punctuality is a civilized and cultural virtue, an etiquette of trustworthiness. It is a basic moral conduct and good mannerism, much expected in the marketplace.
A famous writer once said, “ Time is life. Wasting someone’s time is tantamount to taking his life.”
Punctuality is a necessary discipline to be observed whether in a workplace, or attending church services. A punctual person is respectable, giving others a good impression.
A punctual person could become successful easily in our modern social world. He regards punctuality as mutual understanding, trust, and responsibility between two persons or parties. He knows the value of time, and is conscious of the consequences which may bring about problems and inconveniences to others. Unpunctuality is a bad influence to the community and the society as a whole. The habit of being punctual in all circumstances should be cultivated.
Time is important to a pilot
Brother Chong Foo Loy ( William), a senior MAS pilot, regards punctuality as absolutely important.
As a pilot, he has been professionally trained to keep to the scheduled flight time, more than an hour before the passengers start arriving at the airport, in order to allow himself sufficient time to make all the necessary preparation before the takeoff. He has to make 100% sure that the aircraft is safe to fly on time, to avoid any delay which may lead to the passengers’ loss of valuable time and cause them much inconveniences.
Graduated from the Malaysian Military College, and as a Christian, brother William regards the concept of punctuality in his career as important as his own life. He thinks that Christians should be exemplary in the discipline of time management and punctuality.
Our God is a punctual God. He does every thing strictly according to His own timing, accurate and precise. Examples of God’s timings are clearly recorded in the Bible; commissioning His 12 disciples to preach the Gospel, delivering the Israelites out of Egypt, the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. God timed these historical events precisely well to fulfill His own purposes. We, as Christians should follow God’s image, to be trustworthy and punctual, and constantly remind ourselves to develop the habit of punctuality to glorify His glorious name.
Work requires discipline to adhere to a time schedule
As an event planner, sister Stephanie Lau, has to follow a very disciplined and tight schedule. From the beginning to completing of every project, each single detail and minute has to be precise. She cannot afford to overlook any part of her plans and every stage must be completed according to the schedule.
Stephanie’s clients have high expectations and it could be very costly for her if the completion of her project is delayed due to the uncooperative attitude of her team of workers.
Sister Stephanie, a praise and worship team leader in Mega CMC, demands her members to be punctual during the rehearsals and the Celebration Sunday performance. She expects all the team members to be well prepared, start the worship on time and give God their best praise and worship.
As the team leader, she must lead by example, encouraging the Ministry members to be fully committed and punctual to serve God to the best.
Sister Stephanie believes that the relationship with the team members is important. In order to encourage them to be punctual in rehearsing, she gathers them for dinner and have fellowship together before the worship practice. In so doing, she is able to build up the team relationship and encourage the habit of punctuality.
Always punctual
Brother Mason Lim, a PIC Committee member, says that some people are habitually not punctual. We should not be emotionally disturbed by their deep-rooted bad habit. Instead, we should praise God for those who are always punctual.
To be punctual with an appointment means to keep our words with someone/ party. The Bible reminds us as Christians, it is our basic faith to follow its teachings. Though not 100% of the Christians can obey God’s Word, we are expected to do our best and likewise to responsibly keep our words with others.
Our time is valuable; so is the time of others. Irrespective of the amount of wealth someone has or how popular he is, respecting the time of others is like respecting himself. A Christian who is disrespectful of others and unrepentful is gradually conducting himself against the teachings of the Bible, and he should also not expect to be respected by his friends and relatives.
1 Peter 2:17 says, “Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.”
A Christian who does not keep to his words is a dishonest Christian. Does it mean that unpunctuality equals to not keeping to his words? Or unpunctuality means dishonesty? In reality, unpunctuality seems to be more serious.
Let’s strive hard to always keep to our words and be honest and responsible Christians for Christ Jesus.
